Looking to Next Week – Design Harvest Festival – Chicago

Posted by liz on Sep 22nd, 2011

I’m kinda pumped for this… Design Harvest Festival – Chicago.  I’m really working on getting exposure to a design scene that compliments my likes and style.  My family is humoring me… so we’re trekking to Chicago next week for Design Harvest.

Check it out, Oct 1st & 2nd – between Damen and Wood St.

According to their site, Design Harvest is notes as – “The West Town Chamber of Commerce along with Post 27 are proud to present Design Harvest, a new annual street festival for Chicago. This one of a kind fest will feature Chicago’s best local furniture and home accessory makers, vintage and antique collectors, and local retailers of the home design industry.”

Mixing furniture, accessories and antiques in a new way… sometimes the mid-west has just the right mix.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Willams – Event Chicago, my take.

Posted by liz on Sep 16th, 2011

Last night I popped by the MG + BW event in the new Lincoln Park store / Chicago.

Featured artist, Tipper Gore, showcased some of her photographs arranged throughout the showroom.

Two levels of furniture arrangements, expressing their “Cozy Modern” feel with upholstered headboards, nailhead details and soft slightly shaggy rugs.  Linen shades adoren the showroom with modern porcelain lamps for quirk.  Nice furniture – will give your home a cozy and sophisticated look.

Renegade Craft Fair – Chicago, This weekend!

Posted by liz on Sep 8th, 2011

I savor this fair… every little morsel of it!  People ask me where do I get my ideas, inspiration… it’s this scene  — the Renegade crafters.

These artisan’s think of things differently appealing to a modern, open minded – flexible crowd looking to mix it up.  It’s amazing the mix of ideas that runs the gambit at this show. If you are free this weekend and looking for some artwork, jewelry, clothing or designed objects for the house etc… check it out.

Labor Day – San Francisco, Photos & Notes

Posted by liz on Sep 7th, 2011

Labor Day in San Francisco, that’s where “I left my heart,” this past weekend.

It’s a wonderful place to visit.  Starting out at the Dreamforce 2011, conference – we headed out to Heath Ceramics in Sausalito.  While tasting some organic gelato at the factory, Heath owners, Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey – popped by the patio for their gelato before heading out of town.  Celebrity citing!

Mike and I visited the Ferry Building, farmers market, Noe Valley, Cliff House and pacific coast beach.  Dining in San Franciso is always a treat.  Starting out with Blue Bottle coffee in the morning and dinner at Foreign Cinema – ambience was cozy, a modern dining experience to be had.

Always a fun visit to San Francisco!

Project: 1/2 Bath Update – Vintage Bungalow Light Fixture

Posted by liz on Aug 25th, 2011

This Cicero Bungalow light fixture was given to me by my Accountant, Joe Ender. He’s a lovely man that lives in a vintage Cicero bungalow outside of Chicago. Me being the Virgo I am, have emotion in everything and now am reworking my 1/2 bathroom to accomodate this cast iron fixture. Come along for the ride.  I’m planning to update my blog with the fixture repair, medicine cabinet retro fit and wall finish selections.

Lesson learned: There’s always a leaping off point, just gotta find it! I found mine in this old fixture. Thanks Joe.

Designer’s Tools – Napkin Sketch is it a lost art?

Posted by liz on Aug 22nd, 2011

Ever wondered what’s in your designer’s tool kit?  As designers we often forget our foundation skills as we wrangle with new technologies. A quick napkin sketch or color rendering can do wonders to clarify color, direction, space planning an scale.

Consider asking your designer to make a quick sketch… designers – be not afraid to take the extra time.  More clarity makes for good design decisions.
