This weekend’s activities started off to a trip to Waldron Grove Aplaca Farm, Elgin – IL.
Many proven alpaca’s were up for sale, as well as fine art and fiber crafts.

My mom’s artwork was also up for sale, check it out at PokeyTree.com

4 Miles to Memphis / LeClaire Shop Find

This weekend I visited LeClaire, IA and vintage store 4 Miles to Memphis. Danielle Colby Cushman, American Pickers, owns this small but has a nicely edited collection of vintage and custom designed clothing, cowboy boots, accessories and finds from episodes of the American Pickers. If you live in the QC Area or crossing the Mississippi, stop by 4 Miles to Memphis. I picked up a custom designed shirt and wish I could have squeezed into this size 4 beauty in mustard.

ASID Outreach Partners Event / Driehaus Museum – Thursday

This Thursday (4/26) ASID – Illinois Outreach Partners will be hosting an industry partner networking event and museum tour at the Driehaus Museum in Chicago.

The event topic, “Guilded Age of Chicago” – will be presented at the museum to members of design groups throughout Chicago. According to their website, “The galleries, elegantly furnished with period pieces selected from the Driehaus Collection, are presented in harmony with the interiors and surviving furnishings, immersing visitors in the original splendor of this late 19th-century home.

Ikat Patterns – Uzbek Home Décor / Found Objects

I love Ikat fabric and when I saw today’s sale on Fab.com, I was so excited to see the bright vivid colors and patterns.

These fabric patterns offered by Found Object is noted on the Fab site as, “exquisite home décor from Found Object is made from velvet, silk and other fine fabrics that come to you from the dusty steppes of Uzbekistan.”

The color is great – reupholster a chair, foot stool, or make a bag. Lots of possibilites to freshen up with Ikat.

Serpent Sea – Nautical Rugs

This week I read an article in the NY Times – covering nautical inspired rugs made of reclaimed nautical and mountaineering rope.

Designer Sophie Aschauer – designs her rugs under the name Serpent Sea. Inspired by a sailing trip to the coast, she mastered the nautical knots and put the rope to good use. Intriguing and cool.

Freshen up w/ Flor tiles

Spring has sprung in the Midwest. Last week we headed down to FLOR in Chicago – for a pop of color and some creative inspiration.

Design Project: Grey / Modern sectional needed a pop of color and the flexibility of FLOR tiles to create custom rug. The chaise lounge shape of the sofa – looked to formal w/ a rug under toe. Mimicking the lines traced by the FLOR tiles will be functional and modern- working within the space.
*Added bonus, many of the tiles are made of recycled nylon face, and can be returned to FLOR after use for recycling. This month also offered free shipping from the Chicago store. Great deal!

Site Visit: Coyle and Herr

Yesterday, I visited Coyle and Herr - Chicago’s new furniture consignment store – featured in this past Chicago Tribune. Located in the redeveloped Bridgeport Arts Building, it’s full of furniture surprises – i’m partial to anything midcentury, noticed a few formal dining sets – woven rugs, lamps. Although they weren’t willing to “haggle” on price, the prices seemed fair for the quality they had. I’ll be interested in going back and sourcing for specific projects.

This week I had the opportunity to custom frame 3 pieces by artist, Michael Wille. Wille’s abstract style incorporates geometric shapes in monochromatic and colored layers. A quote from Benjamin Gardner, explains “the Episodes project is a constructions of smaller parts – like bricks or timber – that forms a wall of dynamic and changing composition.” Each piece can be taken off the wall and viewed individually and/or collectively.

Local Chicago retail source – Green Home Chicago, now offers the locally made “slat chair”. Green Home Chicago is an eco-friendly store – a great resource for interior designers and homeowners looking for green solutions, home furnishings and finishes.

I love the concept of this chair and resourcefulness in materials and construction. Great find, GHC!
