Quite the collaboration, rustic and chic.
Zinq Design and Kaleidoscape in St. Charles, meets in the middle. Architectural finds, garden and stone share a retail space with interior design solutions and unique finds.
I like the paring of refined antiques, repurposed wood and recycled Vertrazzo coffee table top. Worth a visit.

This week I stopped into Apex Wood Floors in Downer’s Grove, IL. Apex specializes in wood flooring and offers a variety of species from sources around the country and beyond.
Their unique style featuring the natural “characters” of each board makes each floor unique. Honing in the natural rustic qualities, the characters such as knots and vertical grain add to the inherent beauty of the floor.
Going green is only natural for a Apex. They’ve been doing it for years offering locally sourced wood, recycled barn boards, bamboo and engineered wood.

Weitzner Limited is offering Newsworthy, wallpaper made of recycled newspapers.
Newsworthy is described as, “Using an age-old technology of upcycling old newspapers, 100% real newsprint strips are handwoven on a loom and then paperbacked to make Newsworthy suitable for the wall. A wonderful, tactile alternative to an expected grasscloth.”
The blend of soft printed black, greys and subtle colors create a field of printed harmony and texture to the wall. It’s a funky vintage vibe and a perfect background piece.

NeoCon Exhibit’s the SHOKI collection from George Nakashima. As posted on the NeoCon website, “this collection was created from a recently discovered series of drawings by George Nakashima for clients in the early 1940’s, at the very dawn of his career.”
I love Nakashima’s work and look to it as modern masterpiece in the essence of maintaining the natural form.
Thanks Art Van Furniture for the Tweet.

Morton Arboretum’s Steel Roots Exhibit opens this weekend this weekend starting April 9th.
Last week we took in a sneak peak at, “Steelroots: Tobin at The Morton Arboretum.” The metal sculptures are peaceful, above ground and alive with energy. The kids got a hands on appreciation for what tree roots are like.

Modern style made of recycled content, what’s not to dig about these pieces? I’ve put out my Adirondacks for the season, but stumbled upon these recycled solutions with a modern appeal. Loll Designs offers furniture pieces, bird houses, and planters made with 100% recycled plastic and recyclable. Not that you would ever what to recycle these puppies, they’re cool.
