Birthday Blog – Turkish Coffee, Wicker Park, Peotone

Posted by liz on Aug 31st, 2009

IMG_0743IMG_0742IMG_0747IMG_0749 It’s that time of year again.

This year’s birthday blog took me to Chicago’s Wicker Park and out for German in Peotone.

Mo and I wanted to go “off our beaten path” and headed over to Wicker Park. We stopped for Turkish coffee, then shopping at Renegade Handmade and Threadless Kids for tshirts.

Happy Design = Fun w/ Bertie Box and Risom Side Chair

I was just looking up an article on the Dwell website covering Jens Risom, and found the Bertie Box.

Like the not so serious Risom Side Chair, I like the style of the Bertie box.  How much fun would this chair be for a kid to read on, an accent in a hallway, or coffee nook with small side table.

Blik – Back On My Radar with Mina Javid

Posted by liz on Aug 20th, 2009

citrus_exploretripod_exploreBlik just sent out a “Welcome Back” email as they have revised their website and their wall decal offerings.

With the latest designer / retailer parings, the collaboration with Mina Javid couldn’t be more fun.

Keeping it simple, clean and two dimensional always captures the eye and makes the unexpected stand out.

Details to notice: 1) Wall sticker goes to the floor “over the base board” for a more realistic look. 2) Scale of the object is proportional and realistic. 3) Depth of color is solid and will set off any background color.

Like the designs, check out Mina Javid’s clean interiors with a mid-century nod to Heath Ceramics and what looks to be solid walnut custom furniture.

Holland MI Vacation + Design Finds

Posted by liz on Aug 16th, 2009

IMG_0723IMG_0728Just returning from a week long vacation in Holland MI.  My girls loved the beach, we loved spending time with them.

We also can’t go on vacation these days without picking up a “design find.” This trip, I found two pillows made for Herman Miller with Maharam’s Hella Jongerius – Layers fabric at the Outlet/Company Store in Zeeland, MI.

465921002_masterIMG_0730With all the treasures we uncovered and treasured time, I’m glad to be home in Naperville, but nothing beats a week of summer sun in Michigan.
