New Marimekko’s for the Fall

Posted by liz on Sep 22nd, 2008

ginkgo Marimekko’s fall line celebrates natural themes with deep jewel tones.  The renowned Finnish textile and clothing company pushes the modernist boundaries by appealing to the naturalist with the Ginkgo pattern. Erja Hirvi’s Purnukka pattern offers funky twist on gars and vessles, and the Terttu pattern is bright and berry appealing.

Textile Arts has just released the new fall textile offerings by Marimekko.  Consider buying a yard and hanging it on your wall with one of their wall hanging systems.

Glam-up Your Lighting

Posted by liz on Sep 18th, 2008

I’ve been on a lighting kick lately.  A new fixture for the exterior, but how about inside?

I love modern design, but it’s nice to glam-up the decor and feel pretty again.  Crystal lamp bases are in this season as well as anything glass.  It’s timeless, never goes out of style and keeps an air of lightness and sophistication in the space.

Some of my favorites:

Looking for period piece lighting solutions that are beautiful and energy efficient?

Otis Light Fixture I’ve stumbled upon Rejuvenation Lighting and House Parts , for our mid century ranch.  We wanted a lighting fixture that fits in with the period and style of the house as well as being energy efficient using compact fluorescent bulbs.

I found Otis, and I think he’ll fit right in on our front stoop.

Community Activism Invites Design Discussion

Centennial Beach With all the political hullabaloo going on this season and the push for grass roots involvement. I’ve decided to get out there and become involved in my community.

The Naperville Centennial Beach Bathhouse is going to be reworked and I’ve decided to join the community based feedback team. My involvement is two fold:

  1. I’m a member of the Naperville Centennial Beach and a mother of two young girls who benefit from the pubic recreational facility
  2. I’m a designer at heart and any opportunity I can get in some design recommendations, and green ones at that, is a source of great enthusiasm and passion for helping to solve a public need

I’ve decided that my husband and I have lived in Naperville too long not to get involved, and join the ranks of other townies that make Naperville a great place to live.
