Getting the Word Out for Green Design

Posted by liz on Aug 22nd, 2007

Style Chicago Logo You don’t need a megaphone these days to get the word out about going green. You really need a website and a forum from which to talk about all things green related.

I was recently interviewed by Wendy Wollenberg, of Style Chicago Magazine. The article entitled, “Design Trends & Tips – Green Home Design,” was described by the author as, “The Green Scheme Social Responsibility Meets Sophisticated Style in Environmentally Minded Home Designs.”

In short, the author interviewed architects, designers and furniture makers to get their take on the environmental design applications that are impacting our decisions and life style choices.

I’m excited to be getting the word out. Happy reading!

Color Trends – ’07: Tips and Sources

Posted by liz on Aug 17th, 2007

Color Trend, Blue Room I’ve been offering a lot of color advice lately and reading the trend reports help. Most color forecasts are looking to segment color palettes into categories such as exotics, urban, elegant, and natural. I like to blend the categories, define areas of architectural interest, and make subtle transitions that tie a home into a comprehensive design.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • What natural materials are you living with?
  • What are the underlying colors that are going to drive the palette?
  • Where can we add drama? Paint for the walls, accessories or fabric?
  • How can I make my space inviting, but not overpowering?
  • What architectural elements can be enhanced?
  • What is my focal point in the room?
  • How can I work my art into the space w/ color?

Colors I’m into:

  • Aqua/Teal
  • Misty Grey & White Champagne
  • Iridescent
  • Fuchsia
  • Orange
  • Browns and Blues

Modern Mailbox Dilemma

Posted by liz on Aug 1st, 2007

What does your mail box say about you?

We’ve just recently moved into our new home, and need to find a new mail box. One that welcomes guest and the mail man, but not unwanted visitors.

I’m thinking of getting a lock this time, but haven’t needed one in the past. Has my good old trust gone out the window, or am I succumbing to the pressure of additional security hub bub.

Couple of my favorites:

Capella MailboxCapella cute but pricey at $572.00.

Monet Mailbox

Monet at $135.00, not bad, local supplier, but no lock.

Metropolis Mailbox

Metropolis at $102.00, a good deal, gets the job done, locks, local supplier and has an “industry” style.

Snail Mailbox

Snail Mailbox $135.00, cute and perforated, no lock.
Also available at Plushpod $149.00 for silver.

Crab Mailbox

For those who like crabs and lobstah’s and all that good stuff here’s to fun livin’!
