Second-Look Vinyl Wallcovering Program

Posted by liz on Jul 25th, 2007

Vinyl wallcoverings are typically associated with commercial use offering durability, long lasting and in my opinion gassy and not environmentally friendly.
LSI Wallcovering Second-Look is the first post-consumer recycling program offered by a vinyl wallcovering manufacturer. LSI Wallcovering extends their offering to the lines of Cirqa, Plexus and Versa.

According to their site, “Second-Look Retrieval Program converts reclaimed vinyl wallcovering into recycled post-consumer product. The Second-Look Recycled Wallcovering is manufactured with at least 20% recycled content, and a minimum of 10% post-consumer.”

The recycled wallcovering is made with water based inks and is recommended to be applied with low VOC / water based adhesive.

Taking a second look at vinyl may be an worth while for commercial and residential design.

Inside Out and Outside In

Today, my daughter and I visited the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL.

Xanadu Sculpture

I’ve been excited to finally see the Patrick Dougherty Sculpture, Xanadu.

If you are in the Chicago area it’s well worth the trip to the Arboretum. The grounds alone are enchanting but the sculpture, of woven vines and tree limbs from various species is reminiscent of the Pantheon and an ancient basilica.

The sculpture reinforced my ideas about bringing the outside in and the inside out.

Creating gathering spaces on patios and cozy areas for friends and family to sit outside and enjoy one another. Lounge furntiure for the outside makes sense when you consider how relaxing it would be to socialize in comfort.

I’d also like to use more outdoor features inside. Fountains, planters, large groups of plants inside can create an outdoor like natural setting in your home.

Consider flipping the inside out and the outside in. You’re perspective on your home’s living qualities just may change.

Forget florals, birds are in!

Everywhere I go lately it’s bird’s that I see cropping up in the world of interiors.

Cavern Wallpaper - Birds Bird Art

I started noticing the birds when I visited a friend’s home. She had just installed a new wallpaper, Blackbird by Cavern. The wallcovering incorporates blackbirds on stark twigs offering contrast and a peak into a winter day.

Last week we were on vacation to Green Lake, WI. The town of Princeton, WI is five minutes away and offers great shopping and an urban edge you normally wouldn’t find in an otherwise sleeping Wisconsin town.

I visited Henry’s, a contemporary general store and a perennial favorite of mine. In the front window appeared a flock of papier mache birds, by Stray Dog Designs. I knew I was taking one home, it was love at first site.

Finding out the birds were created by Haitians, and made of recycled cement bags, made the birds more appealing. I wish I would have come home with more that one, but I will give it a good home on my soon to be new mantel.

Thanks Stray Dog! Great Design.
