tree limb = asian inspired wall art

I saw this photo over at Decor 8: Artsy Walls: Creative Inspiration from Kerry

Red Tree Branch

The designer found a tree limb and painted it the color of Chinese inspired Red Lacquer furniture.

The tree branch looks like coral with an Asian twist. I like how it juts out of the stark white wall. My love of all things Asian inspired and Chinoiserie have met its match in a tree branch.

Creative Grapevines

Driving thru the historical district of Geneva, IL, last weekend I made Mike stop the car.

A large suspended ball was hanging from the porch of an old house. There were two or three of them. I loved the oversize presence of the colorful grapevine balls haning from the porch ceiling.

I’m fascinated by the use of the grapevine after the grapes have been harvested. My mom made me a fun grapevine bunch for a door decoration. All the twiggs and sprigs are suprizing. Add bow and you’ve got a full fledged decoration. Crafts like the grapevine ball translate into something unexpected and beckon a second look see.

I’m planning to go back this summer to see if this home owner sells the colored grapevine balls or maybe I can get mom to make one.
